Annual New Year's Eve Trip To The Coast - 2004 Christmas With Michael & Sylvia - 2004

Back home from having Christmas with The Robin Warren Family, Rocke and I were ready for our Annual New Year's trip to the Oregon Coast. Neither of us were feeling well, but we didn't want to cancel our trip. Michael and Sylvia were going to meet us out on the Coast to bring in the New Year with us and also to celebrate Christmas.

Rocke and I slept in on Friday the 31st of December to try and get as much rest as possible to help with our colds. After getting up and having a leisurely breakfast, we packed the car and were ready to drive out to the Coast. Rocke and I had reserved a two bedroom unit in Depoe Bay at the WorldMark.

Depoe Bay itself is reputed to be the smallest harbor in the world. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains a station at Depoe Bay. Fishing is in abundance for Depoe Bay . . . salmon, halibut, flounder and many other species of bottom fish are sought throughout the year by sport & commercial fisherman alike.

Along the sea wall north of Depoe Bay's harbor, natural rock tubes are flooded by the incoming tide and spout geyser-like sprays. At times, these streams arch over Highway 101, dousing vehicles and visitors alike.

William Depoe, a.k.a Chief Depoe was Charley’s grandson who resided in the bay until his death a few years ago. William Depoe is buried right next to the founder of Depoe Bay, Autumn DePoe's great-great-great grandfather...Charley DePoe at the Confederated Tribes of Siletz tribal cemetery on Government Hill in Siletz, Oregon.

We arrived at the WorldMark Depoe Bay, Oregon. This resort at Depoe Bay is situated in the whale-watching capital of the Oregon Coast. There are beautiful sunsets, romantic walks and fine dining with vast views of the ocean and the rugged, wild coastline.

Michael and Sylvia arrived a short time after Rocke and I arrived. We got together and drove to a pub and had a couple of drinks before returning to our room. After getting our cars unpacked and our things up to the room, we stepped out on the deck to take in the beautiful view from our room. We then relaxed and visited before driving down to the restaurant for our New Years Eve dinner.

After dinner, we came back to the room to spend the rest of the evening. Michael and Sylvia got busy and made some Texas Egg Rolls for our New Year's Eve Celebration in the room. The champagne was in the refrigerator getting chillded for the celebration later that evening.

As we were getting ready to celebrate Christmas, we noticed a beautitful sunset over the ocean so we all took out some time to enjoy it. Finally, it was time to have Christmas with Michael and Sylvia. We had a great time exchanging gifts and checking out each gift as we opened them. Michael had gotten a GPS from us, so he was busy trying to figure it out. Rocke had gotten a 2.25 Million CandlePower Spotlight from Michael & Sylvia and he had fun playing with it to see how far out to sea he could see. Sylvia and I admired our gifts while watching the boys play with their "big boy" toys.

Finally time to bring in the New Year. While watching some of the New Year's celebrations on TV, we toasted to the New Year with some Champagne and Texas Egg Rolls.

Saturday, New Years Day, Rocke and I stayed in the room and relaxed while Michael and Sylvia enjoyed going into Newport to do a few things. After lounging around in the room most of the afternoon, Rocke and I decided to get out and get some fresh air and enjoy listening and watching the ocean.

The first thing Michael and Sylvia wanted to do was to drive into Newport to visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
They then visited the Rogue Brewery. From there they went to the Rogue Public House to have a late lunch. Saturday evening, we all relaxed and watched a couple of movies.

Sunday morning, we checked out and went to breakfast together at one of the local restaurants. After breakfast, Rocke and I drove back home to Portland and Michael and Sylvia returned home to The Dalles.

Another great New Year's Eve celebrated out on the Oregon Coast.
