Mouth Of Columbia River

From the platform on the South Jetty, we got this view of the mouth of the Columbia River.

The jetty extends quite a way out into the ocean.

South Jetty at mouth of Columbia River was completed in 1913.

Across the river is Cape Disappointment, which I would like to explore some day.

On July 6, 1788, English fur trader John Meares (1756?-1809) named the northern side of the entrance to the Columbia River, Cape Disappointment. The name reflects Meares' chagrin at not finding the Columbia River.
