Thanksgiving - 2003

Time for Thanksgiving again! Where has the year gone. Sylvia had a standing invitation for Mary and I to come to The Dalles to have Thanksgiving dinner with her and Michael. We finally decided to take her up on her offer.

At the last minute, there was a change of plans. Michael and Sylvia wanted to come to Portland to do some car shopping, so Sylvia brought everything she needed to fix Thanksgiving dinner at our place. Wow, what a wonderful step-daughter-in-law to come to our home and cook Thanksgiving dinner for us. Sylvia says the older she gets the more she enjoys cooking. By the time they got here Wednesday evening, Mary and I had all the pies made and the kitchen was ready for Sylvia.

Michael and Sylvia called about 20 minutes before arrivng, then I got busy and fixed us a stir-fried Sweet and Sour Pork dinner. We enjoyed dinner and visiting thoughout the evening. I also made my "favorite" stuffing for the Turkey and put it in the fridge so it would be ready for the bird in the morning.

When we got up Thanksgiving morning, Sylvia was up and had already started on Thanksgiving dinner. She always fixes more then enough food. We had turkey, ham, chicken and dumplings, stuffing, candied yams, fried green beans, macaroni and cheese, and deviled eggs. I got to make my "famous" turkey gravy again this year. Ok, the diet starts next week. Seems like we make that decision every year about this time.

On Friday, Michael and Sylvia invited us to accompany them on their car shopping adventure and of we glady accepted. The car they were interested in was the KIA Sorento, so Mary had already contacted some of the KIA dealers in the area a few days before, and we were ready to go car shopping. They came "just" to look and get some price quotes and ended up going home in a brand new 2004 KIA Sorento, 4X4 Indigo Blue. Michael and Sylvia are outdoors people and do a lot of camping and hiking, so we are sure they are going to enjoy their 4X4 SUV.

Mary and I always do the Wine Country tour right after Thanksgiving, so Saturday morning Michael, Sylvia, Mary and I took off in the new KIA Sorento to do the tour. A lot of the wineries are charging more and more, so it's not as fun as it used to be. Next year, we hope to see if there are any package tours we can purchase.
