CORN BREAD

1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Shortening
2 Eggs
1 Cup Cornmeal
1 Cup Flour
1 Cup Sweet Milk
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp. Salt

Cream sugar and shortening together; add the eggs and mix.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Pour into 9 x 13-inch baking pan. (I use a 10 1/2 inch cast iron skillet. Put 3 tbsp of butter in case iron skillet, place skillet in oven so the butter will melt and skillet get hot. Pour corn bread mix into hot skillet and bake.
Bake in 400-degree oven for 30 minutes.

For Jalapeno Corn Bread add 1/2 cup diced Jalapenos
