Annual New Years Eve Trip To The Coast - 2005

Rocke and I were ready for our Annual New Year's trip to the Oregon Coast. The weather was wet, rainy and windy, but that was not going to deter our annual trip. This year, we would not be spending the night out on the coast. The Oregon Coast has fast become a favorite tourest attraction for many people. Every year it is getting harder and harder to find accomudations out on the coast. We already have our reservations for next year so we will beat the crowd.

This year, New Years Eve fell on a Saturday so Rocke and I were able to get an early start for our drive out to the coast. On our way to the coast we stopped by Shari's in Sherwood and enjoyed a big breakfast. We then continued our drive out to the coast. It rainrf on us all the way out.

Our first stop was "D River State Park" in Lincoln City. The D River is a river in the state of Oregon in the United States. Proclaimed the "shortest river in the world" by the state of Oregon, it is about 120 feet (36 m) long, depending on the tide. It flows from Devils Lake into the Pacific Ocean, entirely within the city limits of Lincoln City. The tide was in, so we could not get out and walk on the beach. The wind was blowing and the waves were awesome. Rocke and I sat in the car for a while and watched the waves as they came crashing in.

Once we left the D River Wayside, we headed down to Depoe Bay to see how many people were being drenched by the famous spouting horns. Sure enough, the weather and the tidal conditions were just right for us to see people getting dreached by the famous spouting horns that shoot geysers of salt water into the air, yards away from Highway 101. Rocke and I finally found a place to park and joined the crowd in watching the mighty ocean roll against the rocks and the water. What fun!!

From there, we drove south to Newport to enjoy a bowl of Mo's famous "Clam Chowder". After we relaxed and enjoyed some clam chowder, we walked next door to the candy shop so I could buy some Salt Water Taffy.

Leaving the Newport Historic District, we started back north along the Oregon Coast on HWY 101. We stopped and took a walk on Nye Beach before returning back to Portland.

It was an enjoyable and fun trip to the Oregon Coast in anticipation of the new and exciting new year ahead of us.
