Mother's Day Weekend - 2005

Rocke and I went over to The Dalles, Oregon for Mother's Day and spent the weekend with my son, Michael and his wife, Sylvia. Sylvia is more like a daughter to me then daughter-in-law. Sylvia had to work most of the weekend, but we all managed to get together and have a great time.

Sylvia decided, since she was off work early Friday, that Friday evening would work best for her to fix a Mother's Day meal for me. Friday evening, Rocke and I arrived at their home around 6:45 p.m., ready for food. First, we visited with Michael and Sylvia, catching up on the news about each others lives while enjoying a drink with them. Sylvia was then ready to cook Mother's Day dinner for me. They grilled steaks and tators. Hmmmm, was it good!!

On Saturday, Sylvia had to work, so we hung around with Michael. I had taken him my computer, which I was no longer using, so he could use it for his weather station. Rocke and Michael set about getting it put together and hooked up to the internet so Michael could access his weather station. We then took a drive to Hood River to check out a used sports good store. Before going to the store, Second Wind Sports Consignment in Hood River, we decided to stop by McDonalds to get something to eat. The sporting goods store actually turned out to be a pretty good store. Michael was able to buy Sylvia a set of trekking poles for our uncoming Three Sisters Wilderness backpack trip in August. We like to use a pair of trekking poles because they make trail walking a whole lot easier. A smart hiker said, “Two legs good; four legs better.” When using poles the whole motion is smoother, similar to cross-country skiing.

After Sylvia got off from work Saturday evening, we set about fixng dinner, consisting of a hamburger for Rocke and shrimp for the rest of us. Rocke is not a shrimp eater, which was great for us, because that meant more for us.

Sunday, Sylvia was off to work again, and we hung out with Michael for the morning. At lunch time, we met Sylvia at her job and we all went to Spooky's for some Pizza. After lunch, Rocke and I returned to Portland. Thanks, Michael and Sylvia for another GREAT Mother's Day Weekend.
